To re-grip your golf clubs at home, you’ll need:

Golf grip tape (double-sided)
Golf grip solvent
New grips
A hook blade or utility knife
A towel or rag
A tray or catch pan (for excess solvent)

Step-by-Step: How to Re-Grip a Golf Club

1. Remove the Old Grip

Secure the club (preferably in a vise using a rubber clamp if you have one), and using a hook blade or other sharp edge, carefully slice through the old grip and peel it off. Remove all the leftover tape as well. Be especially gentle with graphite shafts, as you risk slicing and damaging the shaft.

2. Apply New Grip Tape

Grab one of the tape strips from your kit. Apply it lengthwise on the shaft, smoothing out bubbles or wrinkles. Fold the excess over the end of the shaft to cover the butt.

3. Add the Solvent

Pour a generous amount of grip solvent into the new grip. Cover the open end with your thumb and shake it to coat the inside of the grip. Then, pour the excess over the taped shaft (use a tray to catch excess solvent).

4. Slide on the Grip

Now, quickly (and confidently!) slide the grip onto the shaft. It should glide on smoothly with the solvent. Align the logo or design how you want it, and let rest for 24 hours before use.

Troubleshooting: What If the Grip Gets Stuck?

If your grip stops halfway or sticks mid-installation, don’t panic. Here’s what to do:

DO NOT force it. That could stretch or tear the grip.
Twist gently while pushing—this can help loosen the internal friction.
Add more solvent inside the grip and on the tape.
If it’s a total loss, don’t worry—just cut it off and try again. That’s why kits come with extra.
